During Lock-in
Learn
- Enrol in a free on-line university course such as MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).
- Improve your writing skills. From Daily Writing Tips to expert advice.
- Learn some dance moves. Go Bollywood or John Travolta or waltzes, foxtrot, etc.
- Learn a language: Duolingo is designed more like a game, ELanguageSchool has 15 languages and focuses on written instruction, FSI uses audio clips around short conversations, and Internet Polyglot – and there are many others that have paid subscriptions.
Hike
The simplest way is to go on youtube and search for “hike” and your destination. Here are a few of our favourite hikes:
- Yosemite, Inca Trail in USA, Landmannalaugar in Iceland, Tour Du Mont Blanc in France, Switzerland and Italy, Cinque Terre in Italy, Overland Track in Tasmania, Grand Canyon in USA – the Bright Angel Trail, Schynige Platte to First/Grindelwald in Switzerland.
Exercise
- Some people like exercise videos like the latest ones from Jane Fonda
- Others like circuit exercises similar to ones you may do in a gym. The Queensland Government health site has some excellent suggestions with videos here.
- Here are 30 fun ways to get 30 minutes exercise – many of these you can do during the lock-in.
